Jude, along with her friend and colleague, Julie Taylor, also runs a series of residential stone carving courses in Swanage, Dorset. Seasculpt was founded in 2014 and is held at The Old Post Office set on a private estate on the clifftops overlooking Swanage Bay. As well as a fully equipped workshop, Seasculpt offers comfortable accommodation in relaxing surrounds. Each course runs over three days – with three night’s accommodation (usually from 4pm Friday to 4pm Monday) – and includes breakfast, lunch, refreshments, evening meals and delicious homemade cakes and biscuits.
Courses are suitable for complete beginners and also students with some previous experience. Beginners will follow a structured project and carve a small bas relief in a soft limestone which will be provided along with all the basic hand tools needed to complete the carving. Drawing skills are not necessary! Students will receive close guidance in basic carving techniques and are shown ways to work safely. For those with previous experience there will be the opportunity to carve a piece to match their skills. During the course, you will be given the opportunity to carve your own piece of stone with expert mentoring whilst being cared for and nourished with great food and stimulating company.
